Vitamin E, also called Tocopherol or Alpha-Tocopherol is a vitamin lesser known for its antioxidant and cell-protecting properties and is usually less emphasised amongst the mix of other vitamins. It is a fat-soluble vitamin, meaning it readily dissolves in fats and oils. Vitamin E is usually naturally found in food like meat, cereals, poultry, eggs and fruits. Hence its deficiency is less known leading to people not knowing much about its importance. Vitamin E deficiency is very rare and is only an outcome of genetic disorders or seen in premature babies.

The recommended dietary allowance of Vitamin E per day is 15milligrams for people above 14 years of age and, for pregnant women, it is 19milligrams. Vitamin E is found in capsules that are readily available across the counter or even on online sites, but it must be noted that only on directions issued by physicians should we consume such quantities. Vitamin E works in close association with Vitamin K wherein helping the body readily absorb and use Phylloquinone (Vitamin K).
